The Secret I Kept From You
[Part 1: Best Party]
Hinata discovered some secrets today. They were about his friends. He never thought he would know these other sides of them. But anyway, here they are.
First about Nanami's love preference. She liked girls. Kept saying that there was nothing wrong with this, not that Hinata thought so. Being good friends with Nanami for long, he had long discovered something fishy about her. 'So, when the nights I hugged you, you giggled. What about that?' He asked curiously. 'Nothing,' replied Nanami. 'Just I am not interested in boys anyway so I perceived it as a friendly hug. So I gave a polite response. that's all.' And somewhere deep in his heart Hinata felt slightly hurt by this indifference. He was for a time really interested in Nanami. But it was past tense now.
'So who do you see in this room?' He asked, and they both look around to see the people hanging around. Almost everyone in class was there. They were in the middle of a party. So, of course, some were drinking, some were playing video games, and some playing the football machine, the others were laughing, playing darts.
Nanami looked and thought for a while. Hinata at her. At last she spoke, in a rather low voice. 'Well...' she muttered. 'Actually it was...' her face went slightly pink. Hinata had never seen her like this. it was very curious indeed.
'I won't tell you.' Nanami said. Her eyes with determination. Hinata signed. He knew that look. It means that Nanami is not gonna change her mind easily. 'Fine.' He said at last, looking over her shoulder to the other students. 'You owed me one, because you were about to tell me, but you freaked out.' 'I didn't freak out!' Said Nanami, her face now red. 'You did!' Said Hinata gloriously. 'But I-'
There was something happening in the corner of the room. At first a few people were throwing curious looks at that direction, but then it became more obvious, and more serious. Hinata looked at Nanami, pointing out that direction, showing the need for her to do something. Nanami looked. She was shocked.
'Stop! What is happening here!?' Nanami shouted, marching towards the boys at the corner. 'Are you trying to get us all killed? By messing with that firecracker? We ain't supposed to play with firecrackers in the indoors, don't you understand!?'
Someone sniggered. Hinata looked. It was Saionji. No doubt about that. Mikan was looking worried beside her. She was obviously worrying about someone would get burned by the dangerous act.
Nanami's rebuke made effects. The room was dead quiet, except for the laugh of Saionji. She tends to make fun of the misery of others. Hinata was observing the boys' faces. They didn't defend themselves, but appeared to take Nanami's rebuke light-heartedly.
'Sorry class rep,' said Souda, a huge grin fleshed across his face. 'Just wanted to have some fun you know.' 'Yeah,' supported Nekomaru in dissent. 'There is nothing we can't handle, even when there was an accident, you see.' '...which didn't happen.' Said Mitarai in a small voice. He surely looked scared enough.
Nanami was very crossed. It appeared to Hinata that she wanted to bump each boys head with her fist, hard. Hinata saw Komaeda grinning at the background. He didn't join the mischief. Probably wasn't allowed, you know, since they all didn't get along very well with him. Somehow Hinata found that grin attractive. Komaeda can be weird sometimes, but he can see that he was truly glad that no one was hurt. Komaeda was a kind boy after all.
For a moment Hinata looked at Komaeda. The albino couldn't help noticing, and he threw a look of curiosity at him. Hinata quickly looked away. He didn't want Komaeda to misunderstand him. They were not close at all after all, and it was for the best not to create any trouble for both of them.
Somehow Komaeda was still looking at him, when Nanami announced that she will be taking the firecrackers away. Koizumi went and helped her, like the helpful self she always has been. 'I think what you're doing is totally right,' she smiled, and Nanami smiled back to her. 'Those boys are really trouble makers.'
Seeing that Koizumi was helping out, and was dragging the large bag of firecrackers to the back door, Saionji quickly walked up to help her, just to prove that she was a faithful friend for her. 'Thank you,' said Koizumi, and Saionji's face went red. Something fishy was happening there yet again, thought Hinata.
Now, Nanami was going back to the buffet table, forgetting her conversation with Hinata a moment ago. 'Never mind,' Hinata reassured himself. His feelings for Nanami had gone away a long time ago. Just wasn't meant to happen you see.
Akane was eating beside the table, holding a plate full of meat. She was obviously hungry, and was obviously enjoying herself very much. Beside her were Sonia and Gundham. They were chatting happily over tea. Hinata looked. He was a huge fan of the two lovebirds.
Souda didn't feel very happy of his invention being taken away. He was now discussing something secretly with Kuruzuru on the sofa, with Pekoyama loyally sitting beside him. She noticed Hinata's gaze, and darted a questioned look at him. Hinata shook his head. He was just plainly bored.
Hinata walked to the other side of the room. The music of Mioda was playing loud in the room, but the volume was being adjusted to low by Mitarai. Guess that he couldn't bear the music anymore. And as Hinata was about to do that himself, he was pretty grateful for Mitarai's efficiency. Mioda, at the same time, was composing in front of the table on the other side of the room at the moment, forgetting about the whole world and the noise beside her. And, as Hinata wasn't interested in music, he walked away.
Nanami was now talking with Hanamura and Togami at the moment. Seemed that he was the only one that had had nothing to do. He signed, and noticed that Komaeda was alone too. He reassured himself, and slowly walked to that direction.
'Hinata kun, spending time to take a pity on trash like me?' Komaeda smiled his smile, Hinata looked, and sat beside him. He can feel the curious gaze of the albino. 'You're not trash, Komaeda,' he said casually, playing with the match box on the table, trying to solve the match riddle Komaeda had just created beside it. 'You are one of us.' Komaeda looked at him, but didn't say a word. Meanwhile Hinata was having fun with the riddle. He always likes problem solving games like this. And the game Komaeda invented was good.
Komaeda was silent when Hinata finished his game in 20 minutes. Then he threw a smile of victory to him, and the Albino blushed. Hinata then looked around the room. 'Let's talk, Komaeda.' And they remained on the comfortable sofa.
'May I go and get some orange juice for us?' Komaeda suggested, and Hinata happily agreed. Is it just his luck? Or did he know what his favourite drink was all along?
When Komaeda got back they sat and sipped the drink in silent. Hinata just realised that they haven't been talking for long really. You surely don't want to talk to Komaeda. Everyone says he was mental, and Hinata surely would keep his distance. But today was different. He was genuinely affected by Komaeda's smile. Maybe he wasn't that bad as people speak of him.
He looked at Komaeda. He never observed his face this close to be honest, and to Hinata's surprise, the boy actually looked good. Better than most of the people frankly. Despite his pale skin tone he had a pair of soft grey eyes, a refined nose and a thin mouth. His cheek was bony and sexy. Cowering on the sofa with his legs before his chest, he was a overall slender figure in a graceful way. Komaeda was beautiful. Hinata was a bit shock at this discovery. How come he never noticed this when they had been classmates for ages? Was it bad luck? Or has Komaeda been trying to conceal himself? A boy this good looking deserves more attention. Komaeda should have some friends to not identify himself as 'trash'. There was no such beautiful trash. Hinata looked, and Komaeda suddenly gazed back at him. That was when the whole thing got awkward.
'Is there something wrong with my face, Hinata kun?' He asked anxiously, as if he had done something wrong. 'No, nothing. I was just acting stupid. Sorry.' Hinata quickly mumbled. Komaeda turned. He thought Hinata was making fun of him.
'So what do you think of the party?' Hinata asked, trying to create a conversation. Komaeda shrugged. 'Its okay so far.' He said, looking round the room for a bit. 'And the milk tastes good.' So, you like milk?' Hinata asked, feeling interested. 'Well to be honest I don't fancy it,' Komaeda replied casually. 'It's just... it goes pretty well with the bagels, you see.' 'Oh, bagels. I see.' Hinata remarked, Komaeda looked at him. 'You actually understand that?' He asked in amazement. Hinata felt funny somehow. 'Yeah I do,' he said, smiling. 'It's like I like cookies with orange juice, you see. Taste the best in the world. Cannot ask for more.'
They exchanged glances. Komaeda seemed pretty moved. 'I never think someone'd understand the feeling...' he said with a soft voice. Hinata laughed. 'We can be friends, Komaeda.' He said, casually. 'You and I. We could hang out. Do things together sometimes, you know.' 'I'd love to.' Komaeda smiled. So the two befriended over bagels and cookies, and milk and orange juice.
It was the best party as one can dream of.
